Healing Through Undoing Transgenerational Trauma

Family Systems Therapy is a powerful, transformative approach we use to help families break free from the grip of transgenerational trauma. By examining the patterns, behaviors, and unresolved issues that have been passed down through generations, we guide families in understanding how the past continues to influence their present dynamics. This approach provides families with a clear lens to see the interconnectedness of their history, while honoring the ways they have adapted to survive. More importantly, we offer faith-centered strategies to help break unhealthy cycles and foster new patterns of healing, unity, and peace.

In this process, we empower each family member to gain insight into their emotional responses, beliefs, and reactions, which have often been shaped by previous generations. Through this awareness, families can begin to differentiate their individual experiences and take responsibility for their part in the system, allowing for healthier, more constructive interactions. With Christ at the center, we help families reconnect with love, grace, and healing, creating stronger, more resilient bonds. This therapeutic approach allows each member to grow into their God-given role, nurturing a family environment where everyone can thrive and walk forward together in unity.

Theory of Change

True transformation happens when families understand the dynamics that have shaped them, learn to differentiate themselves from dysfunctional patterns, and create new ways of interacting that promote growth and healing.

Goal of Treatment

Our goal is to help families resolve presenting difficulties and develop stronger emotional bonds through healthier, more functional communication and relational patterns. Families can learn to replace toxic cycles with Christ-centered patterns of love, respect, and support.

Treatment Objectives

Reorganize the family system to foster healing, symptom relief, and constructive problem-solving.

Examine and transform belief systems, family roles, rules, and expectations that may be contributing to dysfunction.

Equip each family member with the tools to reduce emotional reactivity, improve communication, and foster healthier relationships that prevent the recurrence of old patterns.

Interventions

De-triangulation: Helping family members separate themselves from unhealthy relational triangles to promote direct communication.

Healing cut-off relationships: Facilitating healing and reconnection between estranged family members.

Family mapping: Exploring multigenerational family patterns and roles to better understand relational dynamics.

Boundary setting: Teaching families how to establish and maintain healthy boundaries within the family unit.

Problem-solving and communication skills: Developing practical skills for resolving conflicts and improving interactions in a respectful, understanding way.

Session Frequency

This form of therapy is in-depth and solution-focused. Sessions typically occur 1-2 times weekly, with a combination of individual and family sessions, depending on the needs of the family.
