About Caitlyn

Hello, my name is Caitlyn. I am excited to share a little bit about myself, and possibly learn a little bit about you should we cross paths in-person. I have a Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy and a Bachelor’s in Psychology with a minor in Religion from Carthage College, where I graduated Cum Laude. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of gaining experience in various settings, including community mental health, schools, shelters, and addiction treatment. This has allowed me to offer therapy using a variety of approaches, such as narrative therapy, CBT, DBT, and experiential techniques. I've also developed specialized skills in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Trauma-Informed Care, Group Therapy, and Children’s Play Therapy.

One area I feel particularly passionate about is working with teens and young adults. I love helping them explore their identities and gain a deeper understanding of how their past relationships have shaped their lives. This process often leads to increased self-awareness and personal growth, which is incredibly rewarding for me. I also work with couples and families to help break negative communication patterns and create healthier, more fulfilling connections. I’m trained in Gottman Method Couples Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and Prepare/Enrich, all of which have provided me with valuable tools to support couples and families in their journey toward emotional and relational growth.

My goal in therapy is always to take a collaborative and empathetic approach, helping my clients uncover the deeper causes of their struggles and work toward healing. I truly believe that when we understand our emotions and experiences, we can create positive, lasting change. I’m deeply committed to using my knowledge and experience to help people heal, grow, and find a sense of peace in a safe and nurturing environment.

When I’m not working, you’ll find me exploring new restaurants, spending time at the beach, or relaxing with my dog. These moments of relaxation are an important part of my life, and they keep me grounded and energized for the work I do.

Working with Caitlyn has been transformative for me. I came to her at a time when I was feeling lost. Her gentle, insightful demeanor made me feel at ease from the very first session. She carefully helped me understand how I was adding to the problems around me, which freed me up to deal with the problems I knew were not mine to take. This made a big difference in my mental health.

As a couple, we were at a breaking point. Our communication was failing and we had no idea how to get back on track. Getting a therapist was our last option which led us to finding Caitlyn.  Fortunately, she was able to help us identify a few of our negative communication cycles. Now that we are aware, we have been practicing the skills she gave us of what to do differently. This has been a game changer.

As a teen, I have struggled with my identity and felt disconnected with my family. My friends weren’t the best influence on me either and I didn’t want to listen to my parents because I felt they were biased. However, Caitlyn didn’t take anyone’s side which was nice. I learned for myself that I no longer wanted to be associated with certain people and I gre to be able to talk to my parents about stuff more openly with Caitlyn’s help.
